Not sure if any of you guys have caught wind of this. Austin Etherington's kid brother, Alex (sophomore) was going in for a breakaway dunk last night in Hamilton Heights' game against conference rival Peru.

Rather than letting Alex get the dunk and rather than just grabbing him to prevent it, this guy decides to give him a vicious undercut. The play happened less than two minutes in to the game. The prick wasn't assessed a flagrant foul and was able to continue playing for the duration of the game. At one point in the game he also reportedly backhanded Austin's package during a FT, causing Austin to fall into the lane. Peculiarly, Peru was called for a lane violation, rather than HH. Should have either been a foul but if the refs didn't see it, should have been a lane violation on HH. There was also a little altercation following the end of the game with Austin as the teams were shaking hands. Earlier in the season this same dickhead was also the center of controversy, using a racial slur during a game against Warsaw.

Alex Etherington is currently in the hospital with a major concussion and had bleeding in the brain. He is expected to fully recover but his season his over, right before Sectionals start up.

I find it amazing that anyone on there is trying to excuse that kid's actions.  Some people think that that move is "just basketball"?

I would hope that the IHSAA would review the game film for that game and sanctions are taken against not only the kid, but the school and the coach and -- perhaps most importantly -- the officiating crew for not see something that obvious for what it was.

That is beyond ridiculous.
